Wirlomin Noongar Language and Stories Inc.
We undertook a number of workshops and camps: 1. Chosen was designed to facilitate intergenerational transfer of culture from our senior Elders to selected younger family members. Two Chosen workcamps have been held under the current year, one for country participants in Gnowangerup and one for metro in Bremer Bay.. The workcamps were very successful and Elders have commented on the growth and development of the trainees. All participants agreed learning and being on country with Elders and family was emotional and rewarding. 2. A Cultural language workshop was held in Albany in February where we discussed story/ies song and dance from our archive. The workshop was attended by family and members of the Cultural Elder s Reference Group (CERG) . Stories selected from this workshop will be considered for publication. 3. Small informal Wirlomin song workshops and performances were held involving Darryl Williams, Gaye Roberts, Aubrey Roberts, Henry Dabb, Boyden Coyne, Kim Scott, Boyd Stokes and others. 4. NRM: 2021 Held a Family Camp in Fitzgerald River National Park. to continue strengthening the connection between our stories, songs and Country. Key people in our CERG and Committee were updated about our collaboration with South Coast Natural Resource Management. This is the final year of a threeyear contract called Songlines and Digital mapping. It s about digitally mapping sites that match Wirlomin stories such as Ngaawilly Nop and Mamang. This mapping system can include vegetation, waterways etc. The project has been very successful, culminating in the presentation in Hopetoun. Five YouTube videos have been produced Karda/Goanna, Yoorn/Bobtail, Mallee Hen Nest. Kangaroo Tails, Bushtucker. 5.
