The Humble Mission has set itself the challenge of marrying dignity with kindness by connecting people with their needs in a way that is empowering, and respectful and affords them the dignity of knowing they are not forgotten to build in them a sense of belonging and hope so that they can flourish and thrive! The Humble Mission of Melbourne proposes to run its signature weekly Relief by the River Service or ‘gettogethers’ over lunch, where food and essentials are provided through outreach to disadvantaged communities. Relief by the River seeks to create a sense of belonging and community for the homeless, disadvantaged and rough sleepers around the Melbourne CBD by hosting weekly community lunches and a popup pantry. A hot lunch will be served each week, and an outdoor pantry will be set up for visitors to ‘shop’ for their needs weektoweek. This service aims to create a sense of camaraderie amongst disadvantaged communities by bringing them together and creating support networks to build and draw on to cope and create meaning in times of need and crisis. On occasion, Relief by the River will feature clothing, blankets as well as health products, including shampoo, conditioner, body wash, moisturisers etc as supported by donations. The empowerment of visitors to come along l to creating an environment of respect and belonging.
