Mithangkaya Nguli – Young People Ahead Youth and Community Services Indigenous Corporation
The organisaton have received recurrent funding from the Queensland Government to deliver services within Housing and Homelessness to help young people with crisis accommodation and assisting them to reunify with family, and where possible into semiindependent living. The organisation also continues to receive Queensland Government funding in the Youth Support areas to assist young people reconnect back with family and kin, strengthen community participation, as well as support those disengaged from education, training and or employment, as well as assisting young people at risk of harm, including selfharm, but due to end in January 2023. In the 20212022 financial year, the organisation received its last brokerage funds from its partnership agreement with Relationship Australia (QLD) to provide the Victims Counselling and Support Service, which is a confidential and nondiscriminatory service for any persons living in Queensland who have been impacted by crime, including victims of crime, family members and or friends of victims of crime, and witness of crime. Due to Relationship Australia (QLD) not being successful in the funding retender process the Victims Counselling Support Service ended 30 June 2022. During this reporting period the organisation entered into a partnership with the University of Queensland to assist with Australia s first ever Indigenous Youth Sleep Health research project. The organisation progressed employment of 3 casual workers to undertake community engagement and stakeholders consultations. The organisation continues to lead in communityled solutions and practice to initiate strategies that would further strengthen individual capacity and resiliency for disengaged and or marginalised young people and their families and be supported with vital support services in community as well as advocacy, research and discreet community development projects. The reporting period has once again seen the organisation involve itself in a number of key community events, programs and activities to build community capacity as well as working collaboratively with other stakeholders to promote and raise awareness of support services and programs outside the scope of the organisation. The organisation continues to source and secure additional funding and utilising its Charitable and DGR status as a means to demonstrate its operations in community to funding bodies. The organisation hopes to initiate a number of social business enterprise projects that young people can be supported with attaining meaningful skills, training and pathways to employment opportunities in the retail and hospitality areas.
